Rewind to 3rd September 2003. I was admitted to hospital. I came out 2 weeks later – in a wheelchair. I had been diagnosed with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). Having just got out of hospital, my colleagues clubbed together and instead of flowers they bought me a massage. I went along to have a massage and that was the day my life changed forever.
I was asked to fill in a health questionnaire. After surveying it, the therapist asked me if I had done any “emotional work” on myself.
Emotional work? What on earth was she talking about?
I hadn’t but I was open to A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G. The doctors couldn’t help: their solution was to just “pace” myself and hope it would eventually pass. They admitted it could take years.
I wasn’t prepared to spend another week let along possible YEARS feeling like this.
That day I didn’t have a massage. I had EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). To my amazement, I felt a tiny bit of relief the next day. I was more surprised than anyone. How could one session of randomly tapping on different parts of my body whilst talking about my feelings help to alleviate symptoms? I didn’t care how it worked. I booked in for weekly sessions.
On one session, I remember being asked to look in a mirror and say something nice about myself.I couldn’t even do the first part – I couldn’t bring myself to look in the mirror. I was literally disgusted with the face that looked back.
Wow! Even I hadn’t realised the extent to which I suffered with low self-esteem.
I vowed that I would do the emotional work to heal my body and get well again. Little did I know that it was all interrelated:to heal my body I had to heal the relationship with myself.
This was the start of my journey. I read every book I could get my hands on to do with the body/mind connection and increasing confidence. I also trained to become an EFT practitioner (at the time just for my own healing).
It not only improved my health but increased my confidence and self-esteem. The EFT seemingly produced miracles.
:: Fast forward to today. Working as a Confidence and Mindset Coach. EFT is my ‘secret sauce’!
I use EFT to release my clients’ limiting beliefs (after all a belief is only a thought we keep thinking).
You can, and I do, use it for everything:
- Gaining confidence before public speaking
- Boosting confidence before going on dates
- Releasing the negative view of yourself
- Liking the reflection looking back in the mirror
- Stepping outside your comfort-zone
- Learning to actually like ...and then love yourself
So what is E.F.T.? WARNING: it looks and sounds bonkers! I'll be honest: initially I was a major sceptic. But the results prove themselves time and time again.
